Dear Friends in Christ,
One of the most beautiful images Jesus gives us in the Gospel is also one that many people no longer understand. He says:
"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you… For my yoke is easy, and my burden light." (Matthew 11:28-30). At first glance, those words can seem confusing. If Jesus promises us rest, why does He immediately speak about taking up a yoke?
Every day we make hundreds of decisions about what deserves our time, attention, and energy. We juggle work schedules, family responsibilities, appointments, finances, household chores, children's activities, emails, text messages, and countless other demands. Most of us aren't trying to ignore God, we're simply trying to keep up with life.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
If I were to ask what the most common emotion is today, I suspect many of us would answer with one word: fear.
We worry about our health, our finances, our children, our future, our country, and our Church. Parents wonder whether their children will continue practicing the faith. Young adults wonder what their future holds. Many who are retired wonder if they still have a purpose. Others quietly carry the grief of losing someone they love or the loneliness that comes from living by themselves. Fear has a way of finding each of us.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
There is a deep loneliness and exhaustion in our world today.
Many people are carrying burdens silently. Families are overwhelmed. Some struggle with anxiety, discouragement, grief, illness, or uncertainty about the future. Others appear successful
on the outside, yet inwardly feel lost, weary, or alone.
Dear Children of God,
This weekend the Church celebrates one of the most beautiful feasts of the year: the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, traditionally known as Corpus Christi. At the heart of this feast is a simple but profound truth: Jesus did not leave us a symbol; He left us Himself.
